Your Eargo devices can hold up to 4 listening programs. If you’ve completed Sound Match, they will have a 'Normal' program by default, and up to 3 environments you may have selected based on your listening preferences.
If you have not completed Sound Match, they will be preloaded with Eargo’s Factory Preset Programs 1-4.

1. What is the 'Normal' program?
This program is personalized to your Sound Match results for each ear. Use the Normal program for everyday quiet listening. Any additional programs you select will optimize the devices based on your Sound Match results and the selected listening environment. To learn more about Eargo Environmental Settings, click here.
2. What are Preset Programs?
Eargo SE devices arrive with four Preset Programs inside. Amplification, especially for speech, increases as you move from Preset Program 1 to Preset Program 4. We recommend completing Sound Match to fully personalize and self-fit your devices. However, if you are still using Preset Programs, spend time in each one then select the program that's comfortable when listening to speech in quiet conditions for each ear.
3. How do I use the remote control feature in the Eargo app?
You can use your mobile phone as a remote control to discreetly switch between programs instead of using your index finger to double-tap your ear.
Please make sure your Eargos are in your ears before making programming changes from the app. You also want to ensure you're running the latest version of the Eargo app that's available in the Apple App and Google Play Stores. Previous versions may result in a different experience.
For the best results, please hold your mobile device as pictured below when using the Eargo app to change your program or when editing your program(s).
Eargo recommends holding your phone directly in front of your chest like you’re reading a book. If you position it too far down in your lap, off to the side, or have your head turned to either side when making an adjustment, the command sent from the Eargo app may not reach one or both hearing devices. Should only one hearing device receive the command, hold the phone closer to the “missed” ear, and try again.
High-noise environments can also impact the successful receipt of ultrasonic commands and may require you to hold your phone closer to the ear(s) or even briefly move to a quieter location to make changes.
We recommend setting your phone’s volume between 60-100%. You can use the buttons on the side of your phone to increase or decrease the volume as needed. Maximum volume may be required, especially in noisy environments to use the remote control feature successfully.
If your phone’s volume is below 60%, the Eargo app will inform you on the control screens once per session. We strongly recommend increasing your phone’s volume when prompted so that you can make adjustments to your devices successfully. If you choose to dismiss the alert without making changes, it will not be displayed again until you either close and relaunch the app, or return to the primary dashboard after exploring other menu options. Ignoring the alert may also result in unexpected settings in your Eargos. If your devices become out of sync with the Eargo app, you can navigate to the Programs control screen on the primary dashboard, select ‘Program sync’, and follow the instructions displayed.If you can’t adjust your phone’s volume as expected or the Eargo app remote control feature doesn’t appear to be working properly, consider the settings mentioned below, then return to the app and try again.
On iOS
Change with Buttons: Go to Apple’s Settings app, select Sounds & Haptics, then turn Change with Buttons off. When this setting is turned off, it stops the buttons on the side of your phone from adjusting the volume of your ringtone and alerts.
On Android
Note: The steps to adjust these settings can vary depending on the model of your Android phone. Please refer to your phone’s user manual, Google, or YouTube for additional support as needed.
Your device cannot be set to mute or vibrate: In general, pressing the physical volume buttons on the side of your phone will typically adjust the primary volume, usually media volume. If your phone is not responding as expected after pressing a physical volume button, a volume slider will appear somewhere on screen. You can tap the menu icon (usually a gear or three dots) to access other volume settings like ringtone, notification, and alarm. Alternatively, you can go to your phone’s Settings app, select Sound or Sound & Vibration and adjust the volume sliders there, too.
Verify the side buttons on the phone are controlling the media volume. If they aren’t, you may also tap on the media volume slider to make adjustments. The media and ringtone volume for your phone must be enabled. Their associated icons, usually a speaker and music note, should not be grayed out with a line or “X’ through them. This indicates your phone may not produce any audible sounds, which will prevent you from using the Eargo app remote control feature successfully.
Your device cannot be set to Do Not Disturb: Swipe down from the top of the screen to access the quick settings panel and tap the Do Not Disturb icon to turn it off. If this setting is not visible, try swiping down again to see more options. You may also need to swipe left or right to view additional settings, or look under Modes, depending on your phone's make/model. Alternatively, you can navigate to your phone’s Settings app, select Sound or Sound & Vibration, then turn Do Not Disturb off.
On ALL mobile devices
Speaker access: You cannot make changes in the Eargo app when you’re on a live phone call. Remember, the app uses ultrasonic commands sent through your phone’s speakers to communicate with your devices in-ear. If you are actively on a call or using speakerphone, the remote control feature will not work properly.
Competing apps: Occasionally, other apps for games, video streaming, or music may be open and utilizing your phone’s speaker. These types of apps cannot be simultaneously ‘on-deck’ and running in the background on your phone. To prioritize using the Eargo remote control, simply close (not just minimize or background) these other types of apps, then try again in the Eargo app.
4. How do I change the active program to a different one?

Tap the program you’d like to use in the Eargo app, and the devices will change into that program.Your devices will both move into the selected program. Each device will announce the name of the program you’ve selected.
To move programs in only one ear, you’ll need to use your finger to double-tap in front of your ear. A quick double tap to each device will change it into the next listening program. Depending on the placement in your ear and your unique anatomy, where you tap might need to be adjusted.
5. How do I sync my Eargos when my settings don't match the Eargo app?
If you’ve recently made lasting adjustments to your devices using the remote control feature and your Eargos are announcing something other than what you see on the Programs control screen, we’ve got you covered! Pop your hearing devices into the charger and replace the lid. From the app’s Programs control screen, select “Program Sync.” Tap “Sync” and in just a few minutes your Eargos will be back in sync with the mobile app and you’ll be ready to go. You can use this feature from the Programs control screen anytime you have unexpected settings in your Eargo devices.
6. How do I edit my Programs?
You can also edit which programs are inside your Eargo devices, enabling and/or disabling up to 3. Please note that you cannot disable the 'Normal' program if you've taken and applied Sound Match. If you're using Preset Programs 1-4, you must also keep at least one program enabled to use for everyday listening.

To configure a program, select its blue gear icon. This will trigger a menu with options for the program you've selected. To return to the Programs control screen, select the 'X' in the upper right corner.
7. How does the default start-up volume control work?

The default start-up volume control allows you to make lasting adjustments to the start-up volume for any of your selected programs. Unlike the temporary volume control back on your home screen, changes to the default start-up volume persist and are saved for each program so that your Eargos are set just how you like them each time you put them in!
Select Left Ear, Right Ear, or both by tapping on the left side, the right side, or the middle of the orange oval at the top of the screen.
Increase the Default Start-Up Volume by tapping the plus sign +
Decrease the Default Start-Up Volume by tapping the minus sign –
Each tap of the plus or minus buttons should result in an audible double beep in each device. Your Eargo hearing devices have maximum and minimum volume settings. You may increase or decrease the volume 2 steps up or 2 steps down on any of your listening programs. When you reach the upper limit of your volume range, you'll hear "Max" to let you know you've reached the top. When you reach the lower limit, you'll hear "Min" to let you know you've reached the bottom.
When you have finished making adjustments to your selected program, hit "Save". You may now select another program, or if you are finished, select 'Done' to return to the main control screens.
8. How do I change which programs are inside my Eargos?
If you're using Preset Programs 1-4, start by taking Sound Match from the app's main menu. Once your devices have been personalized to your Sound Match results for each ear, we'll load them with a 'Normal' program for everyday quiet listening and any additional listening environments you may have chosen. To reconfigure a program slot for a different listening environment, select the current program's blue gear icon, then tap "Change program". This will trigger a list of listening environments. Select a new environment by tapping on it, then choose "Apply" in the upper right corner. Alternatively, you may tap "Cancel" anytime to return to the Programs control screen without applying any changes.
9. How do I enable/disable a program?
Please make sure your Eargos are in your ears before making programming changes using the remote control feature in the Eargo app!
To disable a program you no longer wish to use, select its blue gear icon. Tap to toggle the button to the OFF position next to "Enable/Disable program". The listening environment will continue to appear in a grayed-out disabled state on your Programs screen. If you tap on the disabled program slot in the app, nothing will happen. Your devices will remain on their current program which is expected. Similarly, if you use your finger to double-tap in front of your ear instead of using the Eargo app, the hearing aid will skip the program you disabled and change into the next available listening program.
To re-enable the program slot, tap its blue gear icon again in the Eargo app. Then tap to toggle the button to the ON position if you want to enable the same program you were using before. Alternatively, you may tap a disabled program slot's blue gear icon and then immediately select "Change program" to choose a new environment. This option is only available if you've taken and applied Sound Match.
