In this article, you'll learn about the following Sound Match FAQs:
1. What is Sound Match?
Sound Match allows you to tailor Eargo to your unique hearing preferences. It takes around 5-10 minutes to complete using the latest version of the Eargo app. Before starting Sound Match, please make sure your Eargo hearing devices and charger are adequately charged, your hearing devices are clean and free of wax/debris, and you're in a quiet environment. Background noise can influence your results.
To get setup, your phone's volume must be set to maximum. Insert the device marked with an R into your right ear and the device with an L into your left ear.
2. How should I hold my phone during Sound Match?
During Sound Match, please hold your mobile device as pictured below:
You’ll hear sounds presented through the left device first at different loudness and pitch levels. If you hear the sound tap “Yes” and if you do not hear it, you can tap “Replay Sound” to try again. If you still cannot hear it, you can tap “No.” Once you've completed the left ear, the app will walk you through the same process for the right ear and inform you when you've completed Sound Match.
To personalize your devices with your Sound Match results, please put them inside your charger. If you decide instead to exit Sound Match without applying your results, they will be discarded and your Eargo devices will remain with the programs that are already inside. For devices without previously applied Sound Match results, these will be Preset Programs 1, 2, 3, & 4.
3. What are Preset Programs?
Eargo devices arrive with four Preset Programs inside. Amplification, especially for speech, increases as you move from Preset Program 1 to Preset Program 4. We recommend completing Sound Match to fully personalize and self-fit your devices. However, if you are still using Preset Programs, spend time in each one then select the program that's comfortable when listening to speech in quiet conditions for each ear.
4. Why is there a Normal Program after I complete Sound Match?
The 'Normal' program is used as your baseline for every day, quiet listening situations. When you choose to up to 3 additional listening environments, such as Restaurant, Phone, or Meeting, they’ll be created using information from the Normal Program. This allows your listening experience to be optimized and personalized for each ear, no matter which environmental programs you choose to use.
If you take Sound Match more than once, you will be able to view and apply previous sessions by going to Menu > Sound Match in the Eargo app. Please note that results saved for Eargo 5, 6, & 7 can only be applied to those three products while results for Eargo 8 & SE can only be applied to those two products. Feature sets across different Eargo product generations are not always forward and/or backward-compatible.
