In this article, learn about the following Noise Filter FAQs:

  1. How do I use the remote control feature in the Eargo app?

  2. How does the noise filter work?

How do I use the remote control feature in the Eargo app?

On iOS:

To temporarily adjust the noise filter in your active program, we recommend you set your iPhone's volume to 75% with Eargo app v3.0 or later. Maximum volume may be required, especially in noisy environments.

The minimum phone volume required to use the remote control successfully on an Apple device is 20%. The icon on the home screen will notify you on any of the control screens when the volume on your phone is too low (below 20%).

Ignoring this alert may prevent your Eargos from syncing with the app. Tap the icon anytime to view instructions or use your phone’s volume up or down buttons to adjust the volume for the remote control.

On Android:

To temporarily adjust the noise filter level in your active program, we recommend setting your Android phone volume between 60-100% with Eargo app v3.0 or later. Your device cannot be set to mute, vibrate, or Do Not Disturb. Maximum volume may be required, especially in noisy environments.

This slide-up screen will only appear on the control screens once per session. If your Android device volume is below 60% and you close and relaunch the app or navigate to the app menu and return to the control screens, the mobile app will notify you again that an adjustment is needed. Selecting ignore may prevent your Eargos from syncing with the app.

How does the noise filter work?

Are you struggling in noise? You can temporarily override the default and adjust the noise filter in your active program to High, Medium, Low, or Off.

From the Home Screen, tap Noise Filter:

Adjust noise reduction to your preferences in the active program (the listening setting the Hearing Devices are currently in).

Changing the noise filter can reduce stationary/steady noise around you and preserve speech for better clarity.

  • Tap “HIGH” for maximum noise reduction. This setting applies up to 13 dB of extra noise reduction in Eargo 5 and up to 15 dB in Eargo 6.

  • Tap “MED” for medium noise reduction. This setting applies up to 10dB of extra noise reduction in Eargo 5 and Eargo 6.

  • Tap “LOW” for low noise reduction. This setting applies up to 7 dB of extra noise reduction in Eargo 5 and up to 5 dB in Eargo 6.

  • Tap “OFF” to turn off the noise reduction filter in Eargo 5 and Eargo 6.

If you’re using the latest version of the Eargo app, each time you adjust the noise filter level you’ll hear a double beep in each Eargo to let you know that the remote control command was received successfully by your devices.

Navigating away from the program causes the temporary change(s) to be cleared. When you return to the program, the noise filter will again be at the default level.

Noise reduction changes affect both ears.

*Your Eargo Hearing Devices also have noise reduction running as part of the signal processing for different programs, settings, and environments. If you find you are regularly applying this filter to any of your programs, discuss this with your Personal Hearing Professional.
