How do I use the remote control feature in the Eargo app?

For the best results, please hold your mobile device as pictured below when making Noise Filter adjustments.

On iOS:

To temporarily adjust the noise reduction in your active program using your Mobile device as a remote control, set your iPhone’s volume between 75-100%. The icon on the home screen will notify you on any of the control screens when the volume is too low.

Ignoring this alert may prevent your Eargos from syncing with the app. Tap the icon anytime to view instructions or simply use your phone’s volume up button to increase the volume.

If you encounter poor performance using the remote control feature despite making volume adjustments to your Mobile device as indicated, consider disabling “Change with Buttons” in your device’s Settings menu. To do this, open your Settings app and select Sound & Haptics. Under “Ringer and Alerts,” switch off Change with Buttons and try the remote control feature in the Eargo app again.

On Android:

To adjust the volume in the active program for left, right or both ears using your Mobile device as a remote control, your Android device must first be unmuted. Using the volume buttons on the side of your device, adjust the volume up or down until you reach the target level indicated on the slide up screen shown below.

This slide up screen will only appear on the control screens once per session. If your Mobile device volume is outside of the target range and you close and relaunch the app or navigate to the app menu and return to the control screens, the mobile app will notify you again that an adjustment is needed. Selecting ignore may prevent your Eargos from syncing with the app.

How does the noise filter work?

Struggling in noise? You can adjust the noise reduction in your active program to High, Medium, Low or Off.

From the Home Screen, tap Noise Filter:

From here you can adjust noise reduction to your preferences in the active program (the listening setting the Hearing Devices are currently in).

Changing the noise filter can reduce noise and preserve speech.

Tap “HIGH” for maximum noise reduction. This setting applies up to 13dB of extra noise reduction.

Tap “MED” for medium noise reduction. This setting applies up to 10dB of extra noise reduction.

Tap “LOW” for low noise reduction. This setting applies up to 7dB of extra noise reduction.

Tap “OFF” to turn off the noise reduction filter.

If you’ve updated your mobile app to the latest version, each time you adjust the noise filter you’ll hear a double beep in each Eargo when the remote control command was received successfully by your devices.

Navigating away from the program causes the temporary change to be cleared. When you return to the program the noise filter will be at the default level.

Noise reduction changes affect both ears.

*Your Eargo Hearing Devices also have noise reduction running as part of the signal processing for different programs, settings and environments. If you find you are regularly applying this filter, discuss this with your Personal Hearing Professional. Please contact them or log into My Account to create a Support Request.
